Pumpfest Level 1 Climbing!

We're finally doing something related to our portfolio! Yes I'm in NTU ODAC, and I'm the department called "Pumpfest".

Other than being a department in ODAC, Pumpfest, is also an event...and it is defined as "Climbing several very strenuous sections of a route that continue to leave you feeling pumped and don’t allow for a break" as defined by Exeter University Climbing club...haha

Basically, Pumpfest is about bouldering and rock climbing! :)

Yup, we embarked on this 1 day event to learn level 1 climbing at Kinetics :)

This is the first thing we saw when we stepped into the industrial building that was housing Kinetics...

Rock climbing wall :)

Bouldering wall :)

Wowss...was my first reaction..haha. Indoor and fully air-conditioned, it's an awesome place to rock climb or boulder.

Yup, our instructor was Felicia, a graduate from NUS and an avid climber. She's working full time in Kinetics now. She gave us a 1-2 hour lecture on what level 1 climbing is about and all the equipment used and the terminologies used in climbing.

Vanessa & Joyce listening intently...Joyce was actually nodding off...HAHA! But when I took this picture, suddenly she came alive and was listening...HAHA!

Yup, after the lectures, we headed to lunch at the nearby market...which wasn't very near...a 10-15min walk. Upon returning, we started out on the real thing :D

Me climbing :) Look at Chor Seng...HAHAHA! Like some small boy urgently needing to relieve himself...HAHAHA!

From left: A ghostly Pang Ngee, Me & Kai Sen :D

Pang Ngee, Vanessa, me & Kai Sen :D And oh...Felicia is in the background on the extreme left...haha

Me waiting for Joyce to ready herself to belay me :D Haha.

Joyce, Sean & myself :D

Check out their climbing shoes...Looks pretty cute eh? It's actually really tight. It's meant to be that way...haha. Your toes are supposed to wrap up/point down upon wearing it to aid your grip.

After the rock climbing part is the bouldering part...Bouldering is done without ropes as the wall is not as high as rock climbing. And the whole area is cushioned by falling pads.

Bouldering is not that easy...You need really strong core muscles to keep you clinging onto the wall...Haha. Bouldering uses every fibre of your muscles man...Haha. I'm proud to be able to complete most of the noob routes...haha!

Me posing with Pang Ngee climbing in the background :D

Tee Li watching out for Shi Min :D

I'm climbing! :D Haha...With Pang Ngee, Kai Sen & Vanessa watching on...

Lao ban climbing!! Haha.

All of us! From left: Felicia (our instructor), Wei Hong, Vanessa, Sean, Chia Lek, Joyce, Tee Li, Kai Sen, Priscilla, Shi Min, Chor Seng, ME and Pang Ngee :D

Yup, all of us graduated with a Level 1 climbing certficate! :) Yay! It's more of a card than a certificate...Haha. That level 1 climber card is now sitting in my wallet :D Haha.

Yupyups...Had a great time! But I don't think I'll ever go back to climb unless we go back together...haha.
