2018 reflections: Cryptocurrency & the Anti-Christ

This all happened back in the first quarter of 2018. But didn't document it until now. So here's the excerpt from my personal journal:

I was reading up (and watching a lot of videos) on cryptocurrency – its origin and how it works – blockchain technology, miners, distributed ledger, etc. As I was reading into all these, it suddenly dawned on me that this will probably be one of the ways the anti-Christ will use to control the world. The only way he can rule the nations is if he controlled trade and finance – and cryptocurrency is probably it.

Ever since I started working in my dad’s company, Compolite Pte Ltd, we have a lot of payments and money transfers with our foreign customers and suppliers, which involve a lot of fees and waiting time – bank transfer fees, currency exchange fees, 3-4 days to a week to clear payment, etc.

With cryptocurrency, payments made will be completed in a matter of seconds – depends on how fast the crypto miners work – without any intermediary fees or losses. Because of this, I believe one day traditional currencies will be overtaken by cryptocurrency or digital currency – because of the cost efficiency and time-saving element of the service.

All it takes is some huge international conglomerate like Google, Facebook, Amazon or Alibaba (Ant Financial - updated as at 2020) to suddenly adopt or create their own cryptocurrency, and many users and stakeholders will switch to it because of the benefits it brings.

When many large conglomerates start trading in cryptocurrencies – making and accepting payments – governments will be forced to adopt it and come up with some sort of a regulation or exchange rate between the country’s currency and the cryptocurrency.

Soon enough, traditional fiat currencies will fade and what’s left will be one or two cryptocurrencies – something like MasterCard and VISA.

Yes, there are many new cryptocurrencies springing up every other day. But there will be one cryptocurrency with a larger user base than all the others and it will slowly either buy up their competitors or it will suffocate the smaller cryptocurrencies because all its users will slowly switch to the cryptocurrency that is more widely accepted by merchants. So, I believe that ultimately, the cryptocurrency market will coalesce into one or two cryptocurrencies.

As to how the anti-Christ will weaponize the cryptocurrency against Christians, I’m not too sure. Maybe by then, we’ll all be micro-chipped with our identities inside it. Payments will all be made via that chip. So, all the anti-Christ needs to do is to prevent all Christians from using the cryptocurrency (which is already fully integrated into our daily lives) and we’ll be all as good as dead.

This is just one possibility and it has left me “shook” or “shaken” as in today’s lingo as it chillingly resembles what is said in the Bible in Revelation 13:16-17:

"16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name."
Revelation 13:16-17

My spirit was really down when I realized that the end is nearer than I thought it would be.

I began to feel like, my daily work is meaningless. Since His return is soon, my work doesn’t even matter. In fact, nothing matters but the hasty establishment of His kingdom and widespread evangelism. I should go into full-time ministry and begin to further His kingdom in people’s hearts and lives!

That Sunday, during the worship segment of the service (in Hope Church), I was just bringing my heavy heart and sombre thoughts before God. It went something like “God, Your return is so soon ☹ And I want to do something that has more immediate impact and meaning to Your kingdom”

At that moment, the song “Worthy of It All” by “David Brymer” of “OneThing” worship band was being led by the worship leader and God spoke to me through the bridge of the song:

Day and night, night and day, let incense arise

I saw an image of an incense stick – like a candle – and it was lit. I am that incense stick – that’s my lifespan. As it is being consumed, smoke was rising and that’s the sweet smell of incense to God.

His word to me was to continue to live my life as per normal – day and night, night and day – in a manner that glorifies God. He gave me the assurance that as long as I am walking in His will, all things will work out for good.

He calmed my anxious spirit and reminded me that He is in control. All I need to do is to walk with Him, one day at a time and that will be a pleasing incense to Him. No need to be react to such events and realizations with such impulse because...

God doesn’t need our help, He wants our surrender.
He can only effectively use surrendered Christians.
