NTU Week 5 & 6! :)

Lessons in NTU were as per normal...Like this...

Chor Seng...as usual...haha

Yong Jian!! Not very usual!! Haha...Our all star academic-scholar seldom sleeps in lecture! HAHA! I'll expound below why he's our all-star academic scholar...haha.

A shot of Kai Sen at the mooncake festival celebration...by which I left halfway to study because it got kinda boring...Haha!

Apart from that, there are...

Three main highlights of the past 2 weeks in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) :)
1) I'm finally a recognized student of NTU! :D
2) I got into a CCA!
3) Birthday celebration! Not mine...duh.

1) If you're wondering why I'm finally a recognized student of NTU...I recently got something that, without it, I cannot take exams, cannot use the school's facilities (if they check) and cannot vote for people contesting in CCA posts and JCRC posts, etc...
That important something is...

My matriculation card!! :D
Of course I blanked out the vital information on the card, lest you take it down and blackmail me or something...HAHA!

2) There are many CCAs I want to join, but I only have time for one. And taking more CCAs won't add to my hall points...

So I told God, "the first CCA to accept me, I shall take it as an open door from You! :)" Prayers like these are dangerous...but such prayers has led to where I am today :)

I auditioned for Jazz & Blues...a jamming band...and they didn't get back to me...means that I didn't make the cut....

And the next CCA that got back to me with a positive reply was...OutDoor Adventure Club (ODAC)! :D

I am now a sub-comm of Pumpfest, a department in ODAC which organizes bouldering activities in shopping centres across Singapore :) If you wondering what is bouldering, it's rock climbing! I didn't what was that either until they told me.

During the ODAC sub-comm interview, you can choose several departments which you want to join - Freshman Overseas Orientation Trip (FOOT), Trekcomm, Adsports, etc...

I selected Pumpfest as my first choice, FOOT as my second choice and Trekcomm as my third. FOOT is pretty self-explanatory...organizing freshmen orientation camps OVERSEAS! Trekcomm is the scouts of ODAC...You will go in groups of 3 (If I remember correctly) to recce new destinations for ODAC.

The only reason I put Pumpfest as my first choice is because Chor Seng & Kai Sen encouraged me insistently to join them. Haha. In fact, it was them who psycho-ed me to join ODAC in the first place. Haha. I would never have joined this CCA if not for them. Lols.

So, the office I hold now in ODAC Pumpfest is a Logistic Officer, together with Chor Seng & Kai Sen. HAHA! One of the main reasons why I am a logistics officer is because I got a driver's license... -.-"

Anyway, I was chatting with one of my seniors, Tee Wee (If I spelt her name correctly...) and she told me that she wanted me in FOOT actually. HAHA! But Priscilla and Wei Hong from Pumpfest also wanted me! HAHA! My ego is so boosted now...LOLS!! HAHA! Jkjk. But since I put Pumpfest as 1st choice, so Priscilla & Wei Hong got a greater reason to take me...haha.

I must have made an impression during the interview...HAHAHA! Chor Seng called my casual, interactive approach during the interview "flirting" with them... -__-" Haha. I beg to differ. Anyway, I shall not divulge the contents of my interview lest I get further labelled....HAHAHA!

Anyway, we, Pumpfest XV (15) already had our first meeting :) The meeting was awesome :D The people there are really enthu and encouraging :) They really take the initiative to engage you and they value your thoughts.

We also celebrated Kai Sen's birthday! :)

Pumpfest XV!

Take 2...

Take 3! :)

Take 4...We're doing the symbol "P" for Pumpfest :D

Their standard ODAC pose...haha.

Anyway, our Pumpfest heads or SPOs (Special Project Officers) are in red at the extreme right...Priscilla & Wei Hong :)

3) Kai Sen's birthday is TODAY! :) Shi Jun & myself went to his room at 12am to give him a surprise! :D Haha.

Here's what happened...I called Shi Jun..."Eh, where you now ar? We meeting at 12am right?"
"Ya, on the way already...On bus 199, goes direct to their hall right?"
"Yup. Drop me a SMS when you reach!"

I then continued studying Circuit Analysis in my hall's reading room...haha. Then came his SMS. "I reached alr."
"Ok, I'll walk there now."

When I reached Kai Sen's hall, hall 9, I called Shi Jun "Eh, I'm here already where are you ar?"
"I'm here lor...Hall 12 right?"
When I heard that line...my eyeballs popped out. HAHAHAHA!
"HALL 12?! They're in HALL NINE lei..."
"OH IS IT? Gosh! I remembered wrongly! How to walk there ar?"
"I also don't know!!"
"Whoa, I'm looking at the map now...is it near ADM?"
"Yup, near ADM :D"

15minutes later, a sweaty Shi Jun arrived...HAHA! He took a 10min mountainous walk to hall 9 from hall 12. LOLS!

That wasn't the only "fail" occurrence...

We went there and met Chor Seng below his hall and he told us frantically that Kai Sen's gonna leave his hall to celebrate with others already...Next, we didn't have a lighter to light the candle!! HAHA!

Chor Seng went to his neighbour friend's room and they were not in! HAHA! Chor Seng went back to his room to try to stall Kai Sen while we found his candle....BUT...his orientation group already arrived to wish him happy birthday!!

When they saw Chor Seng they were like "CHOR SENG!! COME COME!!" despite his elaborate hand motions telling them to "SHHHHH!!!" HAHA!

In the end, Chor Seng didn't manage to stall Kai Sen and he walked out and bumped into us! -__-" Fail part 2. HAHA!

We immediately reacted by singing the birthday song!! HAHAHA! With the unlighted cake in Shi Jun's hand. Haha! Yup, picture's below!

Shi Jun, Kai Sen, Chor Seng & Myself :)

And on Friday, we celebrated Kai Sen's birthday at Swensen's....again...Using up my last 2x $40 Swensen's vouchers! Haha!
Chor Seng, Sam, Kai Sen, Yong Jian & Myself :)

Yong Jian is our all-star academic-scholar. He does all his tutorials and gets 75% of them correct while we are struggling to keep pace...HAHA!

He teaches us very well too. Haha. Anyway, I also met him before...in Combined Arms Term in SISPEC!! HAHA! Small world.

Anyway, here's a picture of the bill...with the 2x $40 vouchers included :D HAHA!

Yup, Happy Birthday Kai Sen! :) And...My stupid nose has been running since yesterday...I think I'm catching a flu man...Better sleep more and drink more hot water...Anyway, I did drink hot water in Swensen's! HAHA! Ok whatever...Lols

Praying for many more great weeks in NTU :)

Johannes' Departure :(

Johannes is an awesome bubbly, friendly, cheerful and engaging friend :D He is my Temasek Polytechnic (TP) junior :D Although we don't really hang out but I'll remember conversations with him because he is super uber bubbly...Haha.

Johannes & Jonavan :) The Jo-s. LOLS.

He's going back to Indonesia to learn the art of his father's business for one year and after that he'll be coming back here to do a degree. Yup, it's only temporary :D Haha.

Sam, Me & Guang Yao :D

Take 2 :)

If you didn't know, Sam & I are poly mates and uni mates now :) Guang Yao's working now...applying his microelectronic diploma in GlobalFoundries, formerly Chartered Semiconductor. He's a lab assistant there, ensuring all the wafer processes are being executed properly.

Group photo 1! :D Clockwise from Sam...Sam, Guang Yao, Adi, Johannes, Amelia, Serene & myself :)

Take 2 :D

Sam got artistic with his photo app...haha.

Yup, used one Groupon voucher here...haha. Lols! Had a great time catching up with guang yao and my juniors :D

Take care Johannes! :D

My mini 22nd b'day celebration :D

I know, again more than a month late...I totally forgot to blog this post until I saw the pictures floating around in my computer....haha.

It wasn't a planned birthday celebration actually. We just decided to meet up to eat-eat, walk-walk and talk-talk. Haha. But it was near my birthday date so they decided to treat me :D

Another session of catching up and seeing how Jeremy & Meryl are growing to be more like one another and blossoming in their relationship...Haha! Ok, that wasn't the main thing but it's part of it. LOLS!

Jeremy, Meryl, Abigail & Myself :)

Jeremy's self-portrait-ing skills ain't that bad eh?...WAIT A MIN! A PART OF MY FACE IS CUT OFF! I take that back..hahaha.

Take 2 :)

Yup, always great to meet up with them...with friends whom you know, worked with, did events with, lead with and grown up with. :)

Happy Birthday Jon! Lols!

Imprisoned in my own room!

It happened on the Presidential Election's off in lieu on Monday, 29/8/2011. Yes, once again, that's like 3 weeks ago...Haha.

Anyway, this is how it all happened...

I was sleeping soundly when suddenly the door slammed due to the wind - someone didn't close my room's door properly.

That slam woke me up so I proceeded to wake up. I plopped myself out of the bed, put on my spectacles, walked to the door and pulled down the handle.......NOTHING HAPPENED!!

The latching mechanism had spoilt!! My brother called my dad and he insisted that it can be unlocked from the inside by using a metal ruler to go in between and unlatch the catch...or whatever you call it...haha.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, my dad came back from his office armed with metal wires for me to tie around the metal piece sticking out - the latch - that was keeping the door closed. That failed. The wire broke every time I tried.

I was getting really pissed off because 1 hour of my day is spent trying to open a spoilt door -_-"

Anyway, our final method - my dad slipped a small, handheld hacksaw under my door...

The equipment that set me free!! :)

And I began sawing....haha. Thankfully, the gap in between the door and its frame was big enough for the saw to fit in...because I tried to fit the saw on my other room doors...it couldn't fit! Thank God! HAHA!

This is what I did...
Up and down all the way until the catch is half sawed...

I sawed for about 5 minutes before the catch or latch or whatever you call it was half gone...That's when my dad gave the door a KARATE KICK!! HAHAHA!

"BAAAAMMMM!!!" and the flew flung open, breaking the half-sawed latch. Here's what it looked like...

 FREEDOM!!

This is what I sawed out...and that was what kept me locked in my OWN ROOM! A small shitty piece of metal!! Haha!

Yup, that was a really interesting experience and thus it warrants a blog post! One thing I know I will always have in my house - a small and slim hacksaw!! You never know when you need things like these! :D

Anne's 21st! :)

I know, Anne's 21st birthday celebration is almost a month ago....haha. Was too caught up with studying and travelling around NTU. I blog only on my laptop, which is in my room in hall 6. I only come back to my room to sleep. Haha. Right after my lectures and meals, I'll go straight to my hall's reading room to study :) And return back to sleep after I'm beat.

Yup, on with Anne's 21st! Lols!

The first thing that really struck and somewhat inspired me when I stepped into Anne's house is her GRAFFITI-ED WALL!! Haha. This is the first picture we took :)

Anne & Myself! :) Against a backdrop of a really colourful, freshly painted wall :D

Yup, went in and chatted with all my good ol' friends from Bethel. We click instantly. It's like coming home. :)

Nothing much has happened amongst my dear friends as well. No particular camp or happening really strengthened their bond since the last time. Whenever we or they chatted, we'd draw from old memories of the past when I was still there. From that, I can say nothing much happened. No spiritual landmark, not much blossoming of friendship.

When people blossom in a relationship, it is instantaneously observable. When you achieve something together, do something meaningful together kinda thing? There's that dynamic and synergy in the friendship. Yup, I shall not speculate why. Haha.

Yup, on with the pictures :)

Me & Marc :)

Marc's hairdo was the second shocker in Anne's birthday party. Haha! Side-parted hair combed backwards in a old-fashioned, formal way? That ain't the Marc I know. Haha. Guess he's trying to be more lawyer-ly? Hahaha! Be yourself dude! Let it CURL WILDLY! HAHA!

Me, Daryl, Jon Wee & YouRong :D

Me & Jeremy :)

Enjoying my ice-cream bread when someone had to interrupt with a candid shot by which I reacted on time :) HAHA!

Oh, Ding Zhou came to the foreground of the picture! Haha.

If there's any picture that depicts Ding Zhou's cuteness, it's this picture - his "Happy Hamster!" pose. Haha.

Daryl & me! :)

Me & Reuben :)

Me & Christopher :D

Anne & I again...with a more complete wall art...haha.

Joel & myself :) With Joel's standard hugging poses....Haha.

Eunice, Yining & Me :)

My birthday art! :) HAHAHA!

Reuben and I stood by the wall for quite some time, pondering, before finally deciding on what to draw. Haha! I finally decided to draw what I always draw...A SMILELY FACE!! :D HAHAHA! This time, it's a colourful one :D

This is the final result of Anne's birthday wall! :) As you can see, Joel cheapo-ly tried to take credit for my awesome smilely face...Haha! LOLS! :D But I boxed it up :D Heheh...haha.

All of us :)

Take 2 :)

Take 3...my back getting tired so I leaned my elbows on the table...Haha.

All of us watching some Indian movie and laughing at the exaggerated acting and SOUND EFFECTS!! HAHAHA!

Why is this the last picture? Because it is the last picture I took there! Lols!

Anne took polaroid picture with everyone except me! Before leaving I still had to remind her about it...HAHAHA! Lols. Maybe she was saving the best for the last eh? LOLS!! Hahaha.

Yup, had a pretty awesome time...the guys mainly asked me about NTU, hall, my roomy, etc...Was just a update session :) HAHAHA!

Enjoy your 21st Anne!  Your tens place has hit "2"! And yes, you can't count or represent your age with your fingers and toes any longer!
