After all the hard training, we're now all gathered back at what they call our "spiritual home"...SWI (Specialist and Warrant Officer Institute) or SCS (Specialist Cadet School) in Pasir Laba camp.
We're just having lectures, talks and discussions day after day in air-conditioned lecture rooms. We share what we have learnt and done in the different units or TIs (training institutes) and a 2nd warrant officer will facilitate.
The main thing that I really enjoy about this period is...our lunch and dinner durations are like 3 hours? Whoo hoo! So off we all go to the cookhouse and eat our indented meals before heading down to the specialist mess called Rocky Hill Mess in PLC. There we mainly spam our pool games and just chat with all our friends there.
After all, once we pass out as 3rd sergeants, they be deducting S$3 off from our monthly pay as mess fees... -_-"
And this week the Chief of Army, Brigadier General Chan Chun Sing came down to talk to us. We all expected a 2 hour insomnia-curing session. But what resulted was a 2 hour 30 minute engaging session with him.
I'd like to call him the "army preacher". I love his candour, down-to-earth, animated and illustrative style of talking. He also uses different languages and dialects to bring the message across which results in massive guffaws amongst the audience. Every question he answers will be filled with funny illustrations and he will really talk TO YOU. And he doesn't speak off point but he returns to his main point where he throws the question back to us...Are we willing to fight for our country?
I especially like some of his quotes like...
"We don't train you to die for your country; we train you to allow others to die for theirs"
"You musn't only marry the woman you love, you must love the woman you marry."
I'm really impressed and inspired after that dialogue session with him and I must say this is one of the best commanders talk so far. All our other commander talks by our COs and all, all fail to inspire me. Don't worry, no amount of inspirational talks will ever, ever, make me sign on. Unless God reveals Himself and tells me "SIGN ON", I will never ever budge. Haha!
Yup, this coming week is all the marching drills to prepare us for our Graduation Parade... -_-"
