Emceed for EEE Tea Reception 2012 :)

This is the 1st NTU event I emceed for during my holidays! :) Emceed for Pumpfest2012 and will be emceeing for the upcoming event - College of Engineering orientation :)

If you're wondering how I got these lobangs...I actually went to audition for the College of Engineering orientation emcee post. They sent out a mass email to all the engineering students and I went...and I GOT IT! :D HAHA!

So that was for the College of Engineering orientation...The staff who picked me to be the emcee actually recommended me to the EEE Tea Reception team. So that's how I managed to get the emcee post for the EEE Tea Reception :D

I never knew that when I opened one door, that door opens up to many other doors...haha! I was actually hesitating going for the emcee audition because I thought "There probably is so many better emcees out there that would've went to audition...I wouldn't wanna waste my time auditioning and not getting it..." But, in my "just try la" attitude, I simply went and whoa-lah...I pocketed a good $105 bucks! :D HAHAHA!

The thing about the EEE tea reception I emceed for is...I didn't even know I was gonna get paid! LOL! When they told me the pay was $15/hr my eyes opened wide and I was glad I went ahead for the audition :)

Yup, the tea reception is organized to welcome potential EEE students enrolling in the next semester. Those invited are already accepted into NTU. I saw a few of my juniors in army there...Adi and Aaron Chay were 2 of 'em :D Haha.

The tea reception was held at Orchard Hotel! Yes, they have quite a budget...when Prof Ng told me that the budget for the food was $55/head...my jaw dropped and saliva almost spilled out...LOL! NTU really do have a deep pocket to dig into...HAHA!

Apart from the food budget, a few projects were also featured. A few of my friend's projects that were selected were there. I was asking them if they were paid and they were like "Yup, $10/hr" !!!! They're paid $10/hr to stand around their project booth!! HAHA! No one actually cared about the projects...when dismissed, the food is the main attraction...haha!

Just to put together an event like this so much $$$ is spilled out...Whoaaa...Oh well...I hope I can get as much of the pay as possible by emceeing dry their budget...LOL!

Yup, a few pictures...Pardon the self-portraits...I couldn't resist...haha! And I was actually deciding whether should I wear my tie or shouldn't...haha...So while thinking, I took a few shots :D

Me WITHOUT tie :D
Me WITH tie :)
In the end, I stuck with the tie...Haha. I looked really plain with just a white shirt and a vest on so a tie is a good embellishment :) Haha.

Oh and through this event I met 2 new friends :D They were Aaron Tan and Hui Ning below :D

Aaron Tan, Me & Hui Ning :D
They are my seniors...Aaron is graduating and pursuing his PhD in NTU and Hui Ning is moving on to year 4. They were the students who shared their NTU EEE experience with our future EEE students :D

They were really friendly. When I had dinner with Prof Ng, Ms Eileen and the 2 of them, conversations were easy...partly because we're all in the same course.

If you're wondering who's Prof Ng, he's a professor stationed in the microelectronics division - one of the tougher and more science-filled course...and he is the assistant chair for outreach in the school of EEE. Quite a big shot...And Eileen is one of the admin staff :)

They are super friendly too. Prof Ng (Beng Koon) especially...His candid and straightforward sense of humour will really catch you off guard...haha. When I first met him for my emcee interview he was like "You're ok with emceeing for this event right? If you screw up, your life in EEE is over you know?" haha! Yes that was a joke...he broke the tension with a cheeky smile...haha! I didn't see that coming...but knowing me, I'm usually pretty cool so I just laughed it off with him...haha.

From there I also got to meet Prof Ng's 1st boss - Professor Tan Yap Peng, the associate chair of EEE...another big shot in EEE but he is SOOOO FRIENDLY and FUNNY! HAHA! Like seriously...he talks and jokes with you as if he's known you for years...Haha.

And the biggest boss which I met is the Chair of the school of EEE Professor Cheng Tee Hiang. He is a towering giant with a very calm and warm smile...haha. Spoke with him only like 3 times to tell him about the powerpoint slides and ask him what Q&A questions he wants to field.

After the whole thing all the professors were like "Wow, you did a very good job!" and Prof Ng was like "Jonavan, you're good you know?" and he even asked me to join his CCA - LEAD program. His CCA is not an open CCA, you can only join when invited. So I was pretty flattered. Haha!

But in the end, I don't think I got it cos my results aren't all too good...and I wouldn't wanna join it either...it may just tear my backside...haha!

Oh and I'm also the "confirmed" emcee for next year's EEE tea reception...HAHA! Prof Ng was telling me "Like army, once you kena an appointment once and if you do it well, you're the default guy. Same here. So I book you for next year's EEE tea reception already ah?" he said with a grin. Haha...Why would I reject such a great job offer? $15/hr to do what I love most - TALK! HAHAHAHA!

Yup, it was indeed an awesome experience :) Here's a few more pictures...

Take 2 of Aaron, me & Hui Ning :D
My friends!! Their project was on display at the EEE Tea reception! :D
My "Official" tag :D HAHA!
Yupyup, really thank God for helping me find favour in the eyes of the audition judges...haha. Thanks to them, I'm not only $105 richer but also got to meet new people :) Looking forward to the next and last emcee event! :) :)
