ODAC CNY Celebration 2012! :D

I'm gonna go back in time and talk about some stuffs that happened months ago...This one happened 3 months ago...LOL

It was our very own ODAC Chinese New Year celebration! :) It was held at NTU canteen B :D Yup...as you can see we are all dressed in RED :D Haha...

Pumpfest XV! :) Ok, not everyone in the picture is from the 15th committee or from Pumpfest...Haha.
At the start we're all given an ang-pao! :D Haha...Of course there wasn't any $$ inside if not Adsports would've blown their event budget...Haha.

Me shaking "Samantha's" hand...haha
I was expecting chocolate coins...and I was right! On top of chocolate coins there was also our lucky draw number :D

Yup, it was a massive steamboat with our own committee :D Ingredients provided were good :) We didn't hit straight into the steamboat though, we started with LOU HEI!!

LOU HEI!! WHACK AH!!
The amazing thing is...we lou the hei until the ceiling also have -.-" That's how rabak we whacked...LOL! Our hair was also littered with the lou hei vegetables and Chor Seng's hair got quite a load of it...HAHA! He went to wash his hair...LOL! See the pic below...haha. For me, I was trying to keep the food in as much as possible so that we can have a fuller stomach...HAHAHA!

Notice Chor Seng's hair is wet? Kena too much lou hei must go wash...LOL LOL!
Take 2 :D With Chor Seng emphasizing on his wet hair...LOL
Yup, after the lou hei...is the STEAMBOAT dinner! :D While waiting for the ingredients to be served and for the soup to boil, we did spam quite a few pictures...haha

Before the steamboat war began...haha. From left: Wei Hong, Priscilla, Me, Chor Seng, Sean, Rosalind, Teck Kian, Kai Sen, Joyce, Pang Ngee, Chia Lek, Yew Ting & Ai Ting :D
Before steamboat war begin take 2 with PF pose :D
Cutlery given out :)

Waiting for soup to boil...haha...From left: Rosalind, Wei Hong, Jacqueline, Priscilla & myself :)
Ingredients getting cooked....

One last picture before we whack the food......my patience getting thin...as you can see from my face...LOL!

MAKAN!!
Random superman pose...of which I did not take part in...LOL
Me & Teck Kian :D
The fun thing about this event is...in between the sounds of munching and chomping and clattering of soup ladles are GAMES!

The most memorable game...started with our emcees Yan Ling & Swee Chye asking every committee to send their SEXIEST guy in their committee to the front to play a game...

I started the ball rolling by volunteering Pang Ngee...our dear leg-hairLESS guy! HAHAHA! A few of us at our table began chanting Pang Ngee when things took a turn...Pang Ngee got the other half of the table to volunteer me! And soon...I became the SEXY guy  for pumpfest -.-"

Well, I guess all my narcissism can be backed by this moment where 12 people voted me sexy :D HAHAHAHA! Just kiddin :D

Posing for the cameras during the "sexy" man challenge...LOL

This game involved all volunteered participants to do a SEXY CATWALK to wow the ODAC crowd -.-" We were given oranges to help us in our sexy catwalk -.-" Haha!

And guess what? Out of the 5-6 participants, I WON -_-" And guess what was my prize? A kitchen apron -.-" LOL!

That wasn't all...The winner had to do the catwalk AGAIN with the new PROP!! Double -.-"

Me receiving the sexy guy competition prize from Yan Ling -.-" hahaha
Next up are a few disgusting shots of myself catwalking and acting "sexy". Parental guidance is advised...LOL! Remember this is all done in the context of the fun atmosphere and sporting-ness...Why am I justifying myself this much? LOL!

Yan Ling helping me to put on the apron....LOL..and me giving a "sexy" pose...LOL
Catwalk begins....I think Swee Chye looks kinda impressed...HAHAHA!
Yan Ling looking really entertained...hahaha
Blowing kisses in an attempt to be "sexy"...HAHA!
Please do not try this at home! LOL! Had fun though....I still remember how macho one of the contestants were...He took the two oranges - one in each hand - and crushed them! LOL! HOW IS THAT SEXY?! HAHAHA!

After that embarrassing and spontaneous moment of trying to be "sexy" we continued steamboating...LOL. The next event is the most EXCITING! :D

Every committee is supposed to come up with a skit that matches the CNY theme of "健康"! Haha...So before we all left for canteen B, we actually met up in Wei Hong's room to come up with a skit! HAHA!

I was made director by our 老板娘 Priscilla...Haha..."We need a creative person to think of a short skit and you are that person!" She has a way with words...LOL!

Yup, we all gathered in Wei Hong's room and I whooped up a storyline...Joyce was that impressed that she remarked "Jonavan! Why aren't you in film-making or drama?" LOL! I took that as a compliment...she seldom says stuff that are this nice to us...LOL LOL LOL!!

Anyway, Wei Hong's room in hall 4 is AIR-CONDITIONED!!! He INSTALLED HIS OWN AIRCON!! Haha...He's rooming with Zun Chen and Raphael...One of 'em is a legal squatter...Yup..basically, his room is a haven of food and air-con! LOVE HIS ROOM!! HAHAHA!

Ok...so back to the skit part...I'm too lazy to relate the whole script...hopefully the pictures and their captions below shed some light...haha!

Me - Wife, Kai Sen - Husband, Joyce - Narrator
Pang Ngee - Hokkien Mee uncle...Husband Kai Sen is ordering his favourite hokkien mee
Husband Kai Sen taking IPPT with his friends - Pang Ngee, Chor Seng & Sean :D
Due to unHEALTHY living (according to theme :D), he collapsed during the IPPT
Me & Kai Sen with "our" maid - Rosalind...LOL and children Chia Lek & Shi Min :D HAHAHA!
Basically, we talked about HEALTHY living lor...and how our children - Chia Lek & Shi Min - will be affected if we don't take care of our health...haha

Ok, we won the best committee award la...That means we rock in our skit, games, everything! WE ROCK! LOL!

Yup, after all the action and dinner was a time of yum-seng! :D Here we have Pumpfest XV (excluding the bottom-right 3 seniors...HAHA!) posing a yum-seng shot for the photographer :D

Yum Seng moment :D
If you thought that was all for the night, you are WRONG! Next up we have our VERY OWN 财神爷to grace the event! :D Guess who is he??

财神爷 Chor Seng!! :D
Yes, he is from our very own, PUMPFEST COMMITTEE!! :D HAHAHA! HO CHOR SENG!! He totally look like the god of fortune man...The tummy, the eyes, etc...hahaha

Oh...and the costume was the real deal man...Chor Seng was complaining about how hot the costume was and how the material is quite hard to keep the costume in shape...LOL!

Yup, a few NTU ODAC family shots with 财神爷 below :)

NTU ODAC! :D Can you find me? Just behind our very own 财神爷...LOL!

Take 2 :D

ODAC POSE!!!! :D
A shot with our very own fortune god...With his spectacles removed...LOL!
Take 2 :D
Yup, all in all, it was an awesome event...had lots of fun acting, playing games, eating and simply enjoying life in NTU :D

Thank God for all these friends :) and my hall friends and tutorial mates...they are the ones who help us engineers in EEE maintain our sanity...LOL!! They are the ones that half the stress from the academic life we students (especially EEE) face :)

Yup, 2 more years in NTU!!! JIA YOU!! :)

All Sons and Daughters

I think I found myself a new favourite band called "All Sons and Daughters". Love their style of songwriting and worship.

Fell in love with 'em on hearing the first 2 songs...I've pasted the lyrics there too. Hope it blesses your soul :)

Reason to Sing
All Sons and Daughters

When the pieces seem to shatter
To gather off the floor
And all that seems to matter
Is that I don’t feel you anymore
No I don’t feel you anymore

I need a reason to sing
I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
I need a reason to sing

When I’m overcome by fear
And I hate everything I know
If this waiting lasts forever
I’m afraid I might let go
I’m afraid I might let go
Oh Oh Oh

I need a reason to sing
I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
I need a reason to sing

Yeah

Will there be a victory
Will You sing it over me now
Oh
Your peace is the melody
You sing it over me now
Oh Lord
Will there be a victory
Will You sing it over me now
Oh Lord
Your peace is the melody
You sing it over me now

I need a reason to sing
I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
That is a reason to sing

Brokenness Aside
All Sons and Daughters

Will your grace run out
If I let you down
‘Cause all I know
Is how to run

‘Cause I am a sinner
If its not one thing its another
Caught up in words
Tangled in lies
You are the Savior
And you take brokenness aside
And make it beautiful
Beautiful

Will you call me child
When I tell you lies
Cause all I know
Is how to cry

I am a sinner
If its not one thing its another
Caught up in words
Tangled in lies
You are the Savior
And you take brokenness aside
And make it beautiful
Beautiful

Bridge:
You make it beautiful
You make it beautiful

Songs to heal a wounded soul

EXAMS WEEKKKKK!!! 2 weeks of war!

Anyway, this post is dedicated to a really nice friend who's going through a rough patch. This friend's a really sweet person with a real tender heart.

I guess one thing we share in common is the way we treasure words, quotes, songs; and the way we appreciate the many little insignificant things that people often overlook, but mean a lot to us.

These are four life-songs of mine that God used to speak directly to my spirit and it saw me through different seasons of my life.

Yup, plug into your earpiece and let the lyrics of these awesome God-inspired songs sink into your soul and just abandon your cares and burdens right at His throne of grace :)

1) "Safe" by Britt Nicole

I think this song describes what you've been through :)

2) "Have Your Way" by Britt Nicole

3) "Blessings" by Laura Story

4) "Something Heavenly" by Sanctus Real

Hope this lil' playlist blesses your soul :) Do check out songs by these artists. Their songs are packed with Godly truths, emotions, candour, vulnerability, heartaches but BEST OF ALL, their songs acknowledge that there is a SOLUTION in, with and through Christ.

That's what differentiates Christian songs from nice, catchy, emo, secular songs. Secular songs identify with you...and it stops there. It stops short. Christian songs tell you that there is a hope, a REMEDY, a solution...It doesn't just identify with your life, it changes your life.

Yup, jia you! :) Bye!

And for other readers, please pray for my EXAMSS!!! HAHA! :)

Strong Enough

Rainy day...yet again. I'm too lazy to go out to ta-pao lunch...So I just cooked my Sedaap instant noodles, made a cup of blackcurrant tea and sat in front of my computer blog-surfing...Chor Seng said I'm starting to become like my stuck-to-the-computer-24-7-roomy. LOLS.

Oh well, I become Tian Wei only on rainy days. HAHAHAHA!

Anyway, wanted to blog about this song earlier...Was just listening to my mp3 last week on my way home when this song in my playlist played.

It's called "Strong Enough" by Matthew West. The lyrics of the song simply pierced me. You GOT TO check out this song. He's an awesome artist...Lyrics below:

STRONG ENOUGH
Matthew West
Christian Contemporary

You must, You must think I’m strong
To give me what I’m going through
Well forgive me, forgive me if I’m wrong
But this looks like more than I can do
On my own

Chorus:
I know I’m not strong enough to be
Everything that I’m supposed to be
I give up, I’m not strong enough
Hands of mercy won’t You cover me?
Lord, right now I’m asking You to be
Strong enough, strong enough
For the both of us

Well maybe, maybe that’s the point
To reach the point of giving up
‘Cause when I’m finally, finally at rock bottom
That’s when I start looking up
And reaching out

Bridge:
‘Cause I’m broken
Down to nothing
But I’m still holding on to the one thing
You are God
And You are strong when I am weak
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
And I don’t have to be strong enough
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
And I don’t have to be
Strong enough, strong enough
Oh yeah

The lyrics say it all. I've always been this strong...I seem to know and have it in control. Life's been good to me...But now, God is bringing me through a season of breaking me down. Many situations and occurrences are reminding me that I'm not as strong and steady as I think I am.

And this song really summarizes everything. Ultimately, I am not and never will be fully in control of life. I can't control if the test paper I get is tougher (LOL), I can't control what people think of me, I can't control so many, many things...and in light of what I think God wants me to be, I really am lost.

In fact, I don't even think I can ever fulfill whatever vision God has placed so deeply in my heart. My idealism and passion is dying down. I guess God wants me to die to ambition, die to self, die to seeming purpose in life, die to my self-sufficiency and just fall in love with Him.

IT IS REALLY HARD TO DO JUST THAT! I discover we busy, Singaporean Christians are so caught up with work, work, work and study, study, study and serving, serving, serving, that we forget that life is just about loving people and loving God - Proverbs 8:35 "For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD."
John 17:3 "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

We have reduced life and Christianity to just doing, doing, doing...When it is all about being, being, being. We've become Martha-s, caught up with doing and achieving the physical that we miss out on what's more important.

Anyway, God is bringing me to this place where I can sing that line in the chorus of the song "Strong Enough" - "I GIVE UP, I'M NOT STRONG ENOUGH."

I know that, but I'm still holding on to my strengths, to my past, to my achievements and looking to these things to define me. BUT I'M NOT DEFINED BY THEM! I'm defined by who Jesus says I am...

Uhh, too much thoughts to distill clearly over here...I gotta focus on my studies for now...Test this Saturday and a whole lot of recorded lectures and tutorials to finish!!! So yup, let me end of with this hymn:

HOW BIG IS GOD?
Though man may strive to go beyond the reef of space
To crawl beyond the distant, glimmering stars;
This world's a room so small within my Master's house
The open sky is but a portion of His yard.

Chorus
How big is God? How big and wide His vast domain?
To try to tell these lips can only start
He's big enough to rule His mighty universe,
Yet small enough to live within my heart.

As winter's chill will cause the tiny seed to fall
To lie asleep till wake by summer's rain.
A heart grown cold will warm and throb with life anew
The Master's touch will bring the glow again.
